FAQs

Learn more about shea butter and how to care for your Mali Shea

What is shea butter?

Shea butter is a nutrient-rich, all-natural fat extracted from the seeds of the shea fruit. It’s packed with vitamins A, E, and F, making it a deeply moisturizing and healing ingredient. Our shea butter is 100% unrefined and handcrafted to preserve its natural benefits. It’s also vegan, cruelty-free, and gentle enough for the whole family.

What can I use shea butter for?

Shea butter has been used across generations for its incredible versatility. Here are just a few ways our community uses Mali Shea:

  • Dry or irritated skin

  • Eczema and minor rashes

  • Soothing sunburn or windburn

  • Stretch marks and scarring

  • Aftershave moisturizer

  • Lip balm

  • Cracked heels or elbows

  • Soothing bug bites

  • Scalp moisture and hair sealing

  • Pregnancy belly care

  • Massage or muscle relief

  • Softening cuticles and hands

  • Gentle support after radiation or burns

Can I use Mali Shea on my face or hair?

Yes, many of our customers use Mali Shea as a face moisturizer, scalp treatment, or hair sealant. If you’re acne-prone or sensitive, we recommend a patch test before full application.

Does shea butter expire?

Shea butter has a shelf life of about 18 to 24 months when stored properly. If it develops a sour smell or changes color drastically, it may be time for a fresh jar.

What are the ingredients in your whipped blends?

Our Lavender Whipped blend contains:
Unrefined shea butter, sweet almond oil, avocado oil, grapeseed oil, jojoba oil, and lavender essential oil.

We only use plant-based, natural ingredients—no fillers, synthetic fragrances, or preservatives.

Where do you source your shea butter?

Our shea butter is ethically sourced from Mali, West Africa, and made with care by women-led cooperatives. Every jar supports fair labor and sustainable practices.

How should I store my shea butter?

Keep your shea butter in a cool, dry space, away from direct sunlight and heat. During warmer months, it may soften or melt slightly. If you live in a hot climate, you can refrigerate it to maintain its texture.

Why is my whipped shea butter grainy or melted?

This is completely natural! Because our products are 100% natural and whipped without stabilizers, they may melt in heat and re-solidify into a grainy texture. This doesn’t affect quality—your shea is still safe and effective to use.

To smooth it out again, gently melt it using a double boiler and cool it quickly in the fridge or freezer.
